Interview with founder, Gillian Morrison

Gillian Morrison, the founder of Kye Organics and creator of the all-natural skin care products, is a registered dietician with 15+ years of experience.

What inspired you to create Kye Organics, and what was the moment you knew the world needed this brand?

I created Kye Organics because I couldn't find skincare that truly aligned with what I know about health. As a dietitian, I understand the impact that ingredients — both ingested and absorbed — have on the body. I became increasingly uncomfortable with what was being sold as “natural” or “clean.” Many so-called organic products were full of synthetic fillers or fragrances. I wanted to create something honest, effective, and rooted in evidence. The moment it shifted from idea to action was when I realised how many women were struggling with skin issues that were being masked, not healed. I knew I could offer something better.

How has your clinical nutrition knowledge shaped your approach to skin health and formulation?

It’s shaped everything. I don’t separate skin from overall health — they’re completely interconnected. I look at skincare through a nutritional lens: what the skin needs to restore, protect, and regenerate. That means using ingredients that are bioavailable, anti-inflammatory, and rich in nutrients — much like how I approach food. My focus is always on function first. Each formulation is designed to support the skin barrier, reduce oxidative stress, and encourage healthy cellular turnover — without irritation or overload.

What does “clean beauty” mean to you — and how does Kye Organics approach it differently?

To me, “clean” means transparency, safety, and integrity — not just ticking boxes. At Kye Organics, we work only with high-quality, minimally processed plant-based ingredients, many of which are organic or wild-harvested. We don’t use fillers, synthetic preservatives, or unnecessary fragrance. What makes us different is that we don’t compromise on either purity or performance. We’re not just removing harmful ingredients — we’re actively formulating for skin resilience and long-term health..

What do you look for when formulating — and are there any hero botanicals you’re especially excited about?

Every ingredient has to earn its place. I look for anti-inflammatory compounds, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and plant actives that have been studied for their therapeutic effects. One of my favourite ingredients is calendula officinalis — it has remarkable healing properties and is extremely well-tolerated. I’m also very focused on plant oils like sea buckthorn and rosehip, which are rich in vitamins A and E and support skin repair without clogging pores.

What role do ritual and self-care play in how you want people to experience your products?

I believe skincare should be both effective and intentional. It’s not just about results — it’s about creating a moment to pause, care for yourself, and reconnect. Applying your serum or balm should feel grounding, not rushed. That’s why texture, scent, and simplicity matter. These aren’t 10-step routines — they’re considered, evidence-based products that make you feel cared for, inside and out.

Your Healing Serum and Green Cream are gaining a loyal following — what makes these formulas so special?

They’re designed to calm and restore the skin without overstimulating it. The Healing Serum delivers a potent blend of anti-inflammatory plant oils and extracts that soothe irritation, even out tone, and repair the skin barrier. The Rescue Balm — which many people call our ‘Green Cream’ — is deeply nourishing without being greasy. It contains ingredients like mango butter and matcha, which help reduce redness and support healing. Customers tell me they see real change — not just softness, but actual improvements in skin health.

What does sustainability look like for Kye Organics?

Sustainability for me means small-batch, purposeful production. We choose suppliers who prioritize ethical sourcing and low-impact harvesting. Our packaging is minimal and recyclable, and we’re working on refill options. I’m very aware of overproduction and waste in the beauty industry — so I keep the product line focused and ingredients traceable. We don’t chase trends. We create what’s needed, and nothing more.

Who is the Kye Organics customer — how do you want them to feel when they use your products?

They’re thoughtful, health-conscious, and often looking for something more honest. Many of our customers are people who’ve reacted badly to synthetic skincare or are managing conditions like rosacea, eczema, or inflammatory pigmentation. I want them to feel seen, supported, and safe using our products — and to notice a real improvement in how their skin behaves, not just how it looks.

If you could change one thing about the beauty industry, what would it be?

I’d bring more transparency and less marketing hype. We’ve reached a point where skincare is overcomplicated, over-perfumed, and underperforming. I’d like to see more focus on skin health — not quick fixes, not filters, not fear-based selling. Just honest, functional skincare with respect for the body and the planet.

What’s next for Kye Organics?

We’re growing carefully, and always with intention. I’m currently working on a facial cleansing oil and a seasonal balm designed for colder weather. Longer term, I’d love to expand into holistic skin health — education, tools, and perhaps even workshops. But always with the same focus: plant-powered, evidence-led skincare that supports the skin’s natural function.
